Another type of collection that Python provides support for is dictionaries.<\/p>\n
Dictionaries<\/strong><\/p>\n Dictionaries are used to store comma separated key, value pairs enclosed in curly brackets, example:<\/p>\n \nDictionaries do not have any order and may be changed. Dictionaries may be looped through by using the in keyword:<\/p>\n \n print(key)<\/p>\n \nPython provides support for many built in dictionary functions. These functions are as follows:<\/p>\n clear<\/strong> – Removes all elements from the dictionary. Example: <\/p>\n \nfromkeys<\/strong> – Creates a dictionary with the given keys having the given value. Example: <\/p>\n \ncopy<\/strong> – Returns a copy of the dictionary. Example: <\/p>\n \npop<\/strong> – Removes an item from the dictionary with the input index. Example: <\/p>\n Another useful Python method for dictionaries is:<\/p>\n len<\/strong> – Returns the number of elements in a dictionary. Example: <\/p>\nto_do_dict = {'a':'groceries', 'b':'laundry', 'c':'wash car', 'd':'vacuum'}<\/pre>\n
\nElements are accessed by using their key value.
\nFor example this would print the third element value in the dictionary, which is ‘wash car’:<\/p>\nprint(to_do_dict['c'])<\/pre>\n
